    Writing Mastery Academy

Founded by Jessica Brody (author of both Save the Cat! Writes a Novel books), this website is a treasure trove of writing classes on a variety of topics. The value of the content provided is well worth the subscription fee and you’ll also get access to the Writing Mastery community, which is excellently moderated by Brody’s staff. Come for the classes, stay for the chats and critique partners!

    My Story Doctor

The late David Farland was a giant in the science fiction & fantasy community. His former students include Brandon Sanderson and Stephanie Meyer. Though he tragically passed away in 2022, you can still access his writing courses via his Teachable website, which is now managed by his estate. I highly recommend his courses, even if you aren’t a sci-fi/fantasy writer because of the unique insights Farland brings to his teaching.

Looking for classes you can take live with other students? Gotham is a great option! The classes are offered both via live Zoom sessions and asynchronous online instruction. Depending on the class you choose, you can get written feedback and comments on your assignment. The classes are a great value, with experienced instructors and feedback structures are supportive and encouraging.

    Writing for Life Workshops

C.S. Lakin is an accomplished author and editor. Her courses are a great resource for writers at all levels. She does deep dives on a variety of writing topics, including scene writing, creating your cast, and writing emotions. I took her scene writing class when she first ran it as a live session and it was immensely valuable—I’ve even stayed in contact with my original critique group, though it’s been years since we took the class. I highly recommend!
